A moment of Thought

I have been making bits and pieces for some time. A reveiw of what I have learned about, what impact making and meeting others both formally and informally (instutional and workshop) has had on myself.

I have found study both benifical and frustrating as it requires one to consider both what one wants to learn, how to gain the knowledge and skills, with the requirments of assessment.

Both have been learning curves for one who was not encouraged in the schooling department, by family. But with time comes awareness of how to be oneself and where to place oneself, while aknowledging all involved. Harmony is something I strived for, yet with experience gained never sure when it will happen.

Workshops are bit different as everyone knows - shorter time frame, no assessment Usually- getting to focused on the one area of interest - more exploration options - at times facilator has a large knowledge and passion base and wants to share.

So I will do both in some formate as a natural part of my life to meet new and re aquaint with past friends while gaining skills, methods of interest and of how others live the life of making as an Artist Craft person.

I recently got the joy of being in a three day workshop run by Jason Collingwood in Melbourne. Yes a bit late in writing about this- but is there a wrong time. I really enjoyed the three days, learnt lots about weaving rugs in the formate that Jason makes and more. I had friends and other kind people around who where encouraging and passionate about why we were there. The coming away with woven samples -in my case just a few- but feeling a desire to keep going and finishing the warp, I have done. So here are my humble, enjoyed, slighty unfinished samples off the loom.

The start of sampling at Jason Collinwood workshop in Melbourne.Trying some of the techinquics show over three days.

The blocks are to be matching to make continuos width of a rug. It was the first sample of weaving that we were shown. This is to be sewn together once I know the correct method
